16 Vauclain type compound steam engines were delivered to SP by Baldwin in 1902.
The first 10 engines, #3000-3009 spent their entire lives on the SP, never rebuilt, and scrapped 1923 to 1930.
#3010-3015 went to the T&NO and renumbered #273-278. #278 was rebuilt with 77" drivers after a boiler explosion in 1913, the rest were rebuilt in 1925 with 73" drivers and simple expansion cylinders.
#278 was scrapped in 1941 and #273-277 in 1946/47.
