SP #3249 was a Mk-5 class Mike that spent time running passenger service on the Siskiyou line. This shot was taken in the late 1940's while at Hornbrook, California and the train is northbound.

Looks like #3249 has been fitted with a 'clamshell' stack in deference to the Siskiyou line's tunnels and snowsheds.

Originally this Class consisted of 17 engines numbered #3236-3249, 3270, 3276-3277. #3236-3240 were renumbered #3271-3275, when these numbers (#3236-3240), were assigned to some Arizona Eastern locos which were Classed Mk-4.
