Southern Pacific GP35R6300, 6302-636161 units rebuilt
6301 ex6630 was rebuilt instead as #4160 In 1977 SP rebuilt one GP35 ex6553 nee7441 as #6300. Then prepared drawings and specifications for Contract rebuilders to rebuild a further 60:
These were all SP units, no SSW units were involved. All these units were rebuilt in kind, retaining their turbo-supercharged 567's, but having the latest 645 compatible engine assemblies fitted. Any that did not have SP 5-light packages both fore and aft had them applied. The MK rebuilt units had a different nose 'red-wing' shape and non-standard numberboard numbers, the CN rebuilt units were exactly as per SP standards. Although the 6300's traveled all over the SP system, their assigned maintenance base was Houston. Check also the GP35 page for other References. References:
