Southern Pacific NW2E37 units rebuilt
see also Image Library of NW2 Detail Shots. All the remaining 37 NW2's built in 1949, were rebuilt to NW2E's in 1971-72, because they had engines and electricals that could be upgraded at a reasonable cost. The 567A engine's were rebuilt with 645 components, and the headlights changed to twin sealed beam types, amongst other things unknown to me. Any that weren't in Blood Nose paint by this time, certainly were after being rebuilt. Additional information on this Page supplied by Bruce Conklin. |
