(C) 1972, 1998 Clyde King - RSD15 #5162 at Eugene, OR.

The 3 RSD15's ordered by Southern Pacific, were delivered with much fanfare. The 3 units numbered 4816 - 4818 and dynamometer car #137 appear on the cover of the 1977 SP Review, as well as in the 1980 SP Review.
Not successful in SP road service, they were tranferred to the T&NO Lines, and renumbered 250 - 252.
During the 1965 systemwide renumbering, they received 5160 - 5162.
1969 found them on the Hump at Eugene, Oregon.
Finally in 1972/73 they were rebuilt, although text hints not as extensively as other ALCO's. Renumbered 3100 - 3102, they were sent back to the Eugene Hump, this suggests to me they were downgraded to (heavy) switcher status, .

On the SP these units gained the nickname "Alligator", not hard to figure why, looking at the length of the nose in the photos...
