These units ended up being assigned to the West Colton Hump Yard, having been rebuilt in kind at Sacramento locmotive Works during 1974. Initially assigned 6950 - 6953, they were renumbered in 1980, and along with unrebuilt but renumbered SD35's 3106 - 3109 sent to West Colton Yard.

These units, as are the SD35R's, are designated as switchers by Espee, so rarely leave their assigned operating area, namely West Colton Yard.

In September of 1993, the three active units were renumbered 2957 - 2959, to avoid possible conflict with 3 DRGW GP40-2's.
These would have to be one of, (if not the most) renumbered locomotives on the System roster, having had 5 numbers during their lives...
Only one unit shows on the final 1996 Roster - #2957.
