The Railroad Modeler article listed below has a drawing showing the dimensions of the angled 'ears'. I used this drawing, and measurements from a Rail Power Products SD45 shell to develop the following drawing:
I used 10thou styrene for HO Scale, lightly scored in the division lines, and added Detail Associates lift rings to the center top of each panel.
Adjust as necessary depending on which shell you are using - and of course if you are building in other than HO Scale...
Hopefully the drawing will be clear enough to understand - the 'A' end is used at the rear of the shroud, and the 'B' end tucks under the forward flare of the radiator. Don't forget to build a left and a right shroud...
Latest News Flash !!! Plano has released part #14851 SP SD45 Tunnel Motor Elephant Ears EMD fabricated round hoods as well as part #14852 SP SD45 Tunnel Motor Elephant Ears SP fabricated angled hoods. These are etched brass items and easily bent up and applied and will make life a lot easier.
