Starting in 1974, 10 Cotton Belt GP9's were rebuilt to GP9E's. #3650 ex829 was destroyed in an accident in 1972, and #3648 ex827 appears to have never been rebuilt.

If they still had Black Widow paint on being rebuilt to GP9E's, (unlikely) they most certainly would have lost it, for Blood Nose paint.

SSW 3808 as rebuilt, had the 48" radiator fans replaced with twin 36 inch fans and a Farr type air filter box behind the cab.

exSSW 3873 as preserved in SP Black Widow paint by the San Diego RR Museum which is operated by the Pacific Southwest Railway Museum
