California's Railroad to the U.S. 1861 - 1996
The Starlight Train 94/95 was the old Noon Daylight, whereas the Noon Daylight was a day train, the Starlight was an overnight train of chair cars.
The inaugural run of the Starlight was 2nd October 1949.
Like all SP passenger trains, equipment was swapped out when it need maintenance and as the Starlight was well down the importance ladder, consists changed regularly.
It started out as 16 cars long including 3 headend cars and gradually deteriorated over time although always having the 3 headend cars.
Due to less demand, winter consists were always shorter than summer consists.
By the end of 1956 it was down to 6 cars during the week and 5 and 4 on Saturday and Sunday.
It left before The Lark and arrived before 0700hrs at either terminal.
The last run of the Starlights was 14th July 1957, killed off by recession and changed traveling habits.
