Delivered in January 1950, with MU and dynamic brakes in the short hood, but no train number indicators (boards); this was a purpose built unit, for service on the Tillamook Branch in Oregon along with #5226.
Spent all of its life in Oregon, (although it was photographed at Roseville), ending its days on the Eugene hump.
As delivered paint scheme was Tiger Stripes with aluminum hood ends, it later received Black Widow, and possibly scarlet and gray.
Renumbered #5500 in 1951, to make way for RSD5's, and renumbered #4900 in 1955 to group all Baldwin B units together.
